Celebrate Norfolk Thanks Participants

The Planning Committee of "Celebrate Norfolk" would like to take this opportunity to publicly thank all of the participants and town residents that made "Celebrate Norfolk" a huge success. "Celebrate Norfolk" was held on a gloriously sunny Saturday, September 9th starting with an official ceremony to reopen Town Hill after its extensive changes. It was a time to celebrate the completion of the brick walkways, roundabouts, granite " Welcome to Norfolk" sign, Veteran's Memorials, memorial rose and flower garden, repainting of the Tramp House, and various other improvements to the Town Center of Norfolk. Everyone was able to meet and catch up with friends old and new on the new and improved Town Hill.

We would like to start by thanking those involved with the ceremony. The ceremony at the Gazebo included clergy from all three local churches( Emmanuel Baptist Church, The Federated Church, and St. Jude Parish), State Senator Scott Brown, State Representative Richard Ross, Town of Norfolk Selectmen, the HOD "Singers of the Day" conducted by Rosemary Madden, Norfolk Boy, Cub and Girl Scouts in a flag raising, the history of Town Hill by the Historical Commission, and presentation of the new Town Quilt and the Portrait Chair Sculpture by the Norfolk Cultural Council. For those of you that missed the Town Quilt, it is now housed in the library to be enjoyed by all. It is a spectacular piece of art and reflects the many aspects of Norfolk among it's squares.

Then the fun started! At the Gazebo the entertainment line up included music by DJ Jeff Hall, our local officials in the long awaited Pie Eating Contest sponsored by the Norfolk Lions, the NMM Pop Warner Viking Cheerleaders performing their routines, the HOD "Singers of the Day" conducted by Rosemary Madden singing, the Girl Scouts led the crowd in a sing a long of old favorites and a performance by local artist Pamela Ruby Russell accompanied by guitarist Mashi Nakamura. The participation by these groups showcased some of the many talents of Norfolk.

The Party on the Hill was enjoyed by all. We thank the following community groups for helping to make it a great day and for sharing with Norfolk: D.A.R.E., Democratic Town Committee, Emmanuel Baptist Church, Federated Church of Norfolk, Friends of the Council on Aging, Friends of Norfolk Public Library, Garden Club of Norfolk, King Philip Music Association, Norfolk Area Runner's Club, Norfolk Baseball Association, Norfolk C.A.R.E., Norfolk Community League, Norfolk Cub Scouts Packs 80 and 125, Norfolk Cultural Council, Norfolk DPW, Norfolk Fire Department, Norfolk Grange No. 135, Norfolk Girl Scouts, Norfolk Girl Scouts Troops 4748 and 4762, Norfolk Girl's Softball, Norfolk Historical Commission, Norfolk Lion's Club, Norfolk Lion's Youth Soccer, Norfolk Police Department, Norfolk Recreation, Norfolk Public School Committee, Norfolk Public Schools from Freeman / Centennial and H.
