POSITION OPEN: Norfolk Public Library

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES: The candidate selected for this position will be responsible for providing library service and assistance to patrons at the public service desk in the recently expanded and renovated Norfolk Public Library. This position requires theability to understand and follow library policies and procedures and the ability to use the automated circulation system in a fast-paced environment. Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

* Charging and discharging library materials, including reserves and renewals;

* Issuing borrower cards;

* Assisting patrons of all ages in the use and location of library materials;

* Assisting patrons in the use of the on-line catalog;

* Shelving materials, processing new materials

The ideal candidate must be able to relate to patrons of all ages, be familiar with current literature, and have a working knowledge of PC's in a Windows environment and Internet searching.

TIME: 8-12 hours/week including 1-2 evenings per week; plus 2-3 Saturday & Sunday shifts per month (additional 4-6 hours per rotation). Position to begin in late October.

Starting Salary: $13.52/hour; Sunday compensation includes additional $4.00/hour wage differential. No benefits.

REQUIREMENTS: For appointment as Library Associate, A.A. degree plus 1 year library experience required. Bachelor's degree preferred, or equivalent education and experience.
